The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has conferred the Companion of the Order of Volta (CV) on Ministerfor or Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.

This distinguished national
honour celebrates Madam Ayorkor Botchwey’commitment to public service and her impact on both Ghana’s foreign relations and global diplomacy.
The award was presented to the Foreign Minister at a State Dinner held in her honour at Jubilee House on Saturday, November 9, 2024, a statement issued by the Communications Directorate at the Jubilee House said.
The statement noted that, Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey”s “career in public service spans nearly two decades, during which she has served as a four-term Member of Parliament and, since 2017, as Ghana’s Foreign Minister.”
“Her leadership within ECOWAS, particularly in managing complex security and governance challenges in West Africa, has positioned Ghana as a stabilising force in the Region,
and demonstrated her dedication to peace and cooperation,” it added.
The Foreign Minister recently made history as the first Ghanaian and the first African woman to be elected
Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations.
“This achievement brings great pride to Ghana, reflects Ghana’s standing in the comity of nations, and strengthens the nation’s reputation
for producing influential global leaders committed to diplomacy and women’s empowerment.
“Government extends its warmest congratulations to Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey on this
well-deserved recognition.
“As she prepares to assume her new role, we are confident that her
leadership will elevate further Ghana’s role on the world stage, and inspire others in the pursuit
of peace, development, and unity,” it concluded.
