A senior aide to Alan Kyerematen and a leading figure in the Movement for Change, Hopeson Adorye has expressed confidence that Kyerematen will garner more than 30% and of the votes in the Ashanti Region in the upcoming elections.

He attributed this projection to dissatisfaction among the people of the region over unfulfilled promises by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during their tenure in power.

Speaking during a phone interview on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Thursday, November 28, 2024, Adorye cited incomplete projects initiated under former President John Agyekum Kufuor as a significant factor contributing to this sentiment.

He emphasized that despite being in power for eight years, the NPP has failed to complete key projects in the region, leaving many residents disillusioned.

“Former President Kufuor had the foresight to initiate market projects aimed at supporting market women and traders in the Ashanti Region. Unfortunately, these projects were not completed before the NPP lost power.

“When the National Democratic Congress (NDC) took over, they also failed to finish the work. Now, after eight years of the NPP returning to power, the projects remain abandoned,” Adorye explained.

He argued that this lack of progress has created a “big question mark” over the NPP’s commitment to the Ashanti Region, which has historically been the party’s stronghold. Adorye further lamented that the party appears to have prioritized Greater Accra over Ashanti in terms of development.

“The NPP has undertaken several commissioning ceremonies and initiated numerous projects in the Greater Accra Region, but the Ashanti Region has been largely neglected. Since coming to power, they have done little to address the needs of the people here,” he said.

According to Adorye, the perception of neglect has left many residents feeling unappreciated and underrepresented, which could lead to a significant shift in voting patterns in the region. He noted that the Ashanti people expected more from the NPP, given their overwhelming support for the party in previous elections.

“The Ashanti Region has always been a loyal base for the NPP, but the party’s failure to deliver on key projects and fulfill its promises has left the people feeling betrayed. This time, they are ready to explore alternative options, and Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change is resonating with them,” Adorye added.

The comments by Hopeson Adorye come at a time when the political landscape in the Ashanti Region is becoming increasingly competitive. With the elections fast approaching, it remains to be seen whether Alan Kyerematen’s message of change will translate into the level of support Adorye predicts.
