Election 2024: NDC remains steadfast to maintain peace – Mahama

Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, on Thursday, November 28, 2024, pledged that the NDC is unwavering in its commitment to maintain peace during the coming elections.

Speaking during the signing of a peace pact at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, he underlined the importance of the NDC’s active participation in guaranteeing and ensuring peace after the 2024 elections.

“The NDC’s active participation is an indication of the importance and the overall effort to guarantee peace and ensure in the preservation of peace in the aftermath of the upcoming elections,” he stated.

Peace is “the foundation upon which Ghana’s democracy is built, and it is essential to preserve it even during critical times,” he said, assuring Ghanaians that the NDC would maintain peace before, during, and after elections.

In order to prevent election violence, he says, the NDC is ready as all patriotic citizens work together to keep the nation a beacon of peace and stability.

“The NDC stands prepared as collectively patriotic citizens ensure that the country remains a beacon of peace and stability to avoid electoral violence”, he reckons.

He urged Ghanaians to understand that our acts have repercussions. There should be no tolerance for hate speech or provocative reactions that incite violence.

“As citizens, we must recognise that our actions have consequences. Hat speech and inflammatory response that can insight violence should have no place”, he urged.

However, he urged that tolerance, and understanding should be the guiding principles upon which the Ghanaian politics is practiced.
