The Minister of Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has expressed strong opposition to the possibility of a hung Parliament under a future Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia administration.

According to her, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is retaining power in the upcoming general elections, with its flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia, set to become Ghana’s next president and drive national transformation.

Madam Owusu-Ekuful emphasized that achieving the presidential hopeful’s ambitious development agenda would require a clear majority in Parliament to facilitate effective decision-making.

The 8th Parliament under Speaker Alban Bagbin, with its composition, with equal seats [137] for both the NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been characterized by chaos and frequent walkouts by both sides during critical decision-making processes.

Speaking exclusively on the Angel Morning Show, the minister underscored the need to avoid a repeat of the current hung Parliament in the 9th Parliament under a potential Bawumia government.

“If you want development, transformation, and growth in your constituencies, avoid voting skirt and blouse. Vote for the NPP and any NPP candidate contesting for an MP position,” she urged.

She attributed the current parliamentary deadlock, with both the NPP and NDC holding the seats each, to some NPP members refusing to vote in the 2020 elections.

“This has led to the situation we’re witnessing now, where the NDC is flexing its influence in Parliament,” she stated.

The Ablekuma West MP declared that such a scenario must never happen again.

“Dr. Bawumia doesn’t need that headache. Let us give him a clear majority in Parliament,” she declared emphatically.

She added, “We don’t want any debate anymore. If you want transformation, then vote number one.”
