President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Muslim women can freely wear the hijab without discrimination, stressing the importance of upholding religious freedom and promoting equality in society.

Speaking at the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving event at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on January 10, Mr Mahama assured the Muslim community of his administration’s dedication to upholding constitutional provisions that protect the rights of all citizens.

The President reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the constitutional provision that guarantees Ghanaians the freedom to practice any religion, including the right to express their faith through their attire. He emphasized the importance of protecting Muslim women’s right to wear the hijab in all settings.

“We promised to uphold the constitutional provision that Ghanaians are free to belong to any religion and to profess their religion. Professing our religion includes how we dress. And so, in that vein, we will protect the rights of Muslim women to wear their hijabs wherever,” he stated.Muslim women hijab

The President also renewed his commitment to advancing education in underprivileged Muslim communities, promising scholarships to ensure fair access to higher education.

The President emphasized the government’s commitment to offering more scholarships for students in underprivileged communities, particularly within Muslim communities.

He says these scholarships aim to support studies in key fields such as medicine, to increase the number of Muslim doctors; law; and Information and Communication Technology.
