President John Mahama has assured the public that food shortages in some senior high schools across the country will soon be resolved.

He explained that enough food supplies are at the Tema port, which were brought in by the previous government to deal with last year’s drought, will now be used to feed students and ensure that education continues smoothly.

Speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service in Accra on Sunday, the president said the food was originally imported to address the drought’s effects, but some of it will now be redirected to meet the immediate needs of the schools.President Mahama

“This food was imported by the outgone government in response to the drought that occurred last year but in this emergency, we need to use some of that food to feed our students so that education can continue,”

President Mahama says he has instructed his Chief of Staff to work with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to move the food from the port and distribute it to the affected schools.

“I have asked the Chief of Staff to work with the Ghana Education Service to allocate and evacuate foods that are currently held in warehouses in Tema”.

According to the president, this is part of his commitment to enhancing the Free Senior High School initiative started by the previous government.
