Concerned Bettors of Ghana (CBOG) has warmly welcomed the government’s decision to scrap the 10% betting tax imposed on winnings by the previous administration.

Richard Agudah, President of the group, shared the members’ sentiments regarding the announcement, stating that they had anticipated this development since the tax was introduced under the NPP administration.

“Before this decision, we engaged the previous government and warned them about the consequences of their actions. We suggested that it would be better to scrap the tax, but they refused to listen and went ahead with its implementation.

Now that the NDC government has decided to abolish it, as announced by the finance minister-designate, we are very happy. Many of my members have described the news as excellent,” Mr. Agudah said.

Speaking further on the Angel Morning Show with Saddick Adams, Mr. Agudah said that the news was a relief for members, as the 10% deduction from their winnings was burdensome.

“Being taxed on your winnings is frustrating because winning doesn’t come easily. We are all happy about this development and are hopeful that the government will fulfill its promise,” he stated.

Mr. Agudah also suggested that the government and future administrations focus on increasing taxes on betting syndicates rather than imposing taxes on bettors themselves.
