Prez Mahama to attend 49th SWAG awards as special guest of honour

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has announced President John Dramani Mahama, as its special guest of honour at the 49th SWAG Awards slated to take place on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Center.

The upcoming awards night will recognize and celebrate the outstanding achievements of Ghanaian sports personalities and teams in the 2024 year under review.

As the longest-running award scheme in Ghana, the SWAG Awards have consistently recognized and rewarded top-performing sportsmen and women since 1975.

SWAG, announcing the President’s presence at the coming event stated that it will undoubtedly add to the excitement and prestige of the occasion.

“H.E President John Mahama has confirmed to make a special appearance at the prestigious SWAG Awards as the guest of honour endorsing his interest, focus, and his willingness to support sports development and promotion in Ghana.

“The President has shown his commitment to promoting sports in Ghana, and his attendance at the SWAG Awards despite his tight schedule will be a testament to his dedication to recognizing and celebrating the achievements of Ghana’s sports heroes,” said the association in a statement published on its website.

Mr. Mahama would deliver a keynote address on the theme; “Gold and Glory, a call for change in national orientation and investment in sports”, where he will share his vision for sports development in the country in his administration.

He would, as such, honor the achievements of the award winners on the night as the special guest of honour at the 49th SWAG Awards.

Highlife sensation, Peter Fameye Gozah aka Fameye, will entertain patrons at the event.

The 49th SWAG Awards promises to be an unforgettable and exciting evening, with over 50 top-performing athletes and officials being honored for their contributions to Ghanaian sports.

It is expected to attract a large audience of sports enthusiasts, stakeholders, and media personnel. The event will be broadcast live on television and streamed online, allowing millions of Ghanaians to join in the celebration.
