A member of the communication team for the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has cautioned Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku to step down from his position.
According to him, the GFA president is solely responsible for the death of Kumasi Asante Kotoko fan ‘Pooley.’ He stated that due to the lack of security at the event, he believes Kurt is responsible for providing adequate security, which he failed to do.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on February 4, 2025, Solomon Owusu explained that the GFA president could have arranged a proper venue for the Nsuatreman and Kotoko game. He pointed out that Kurt does not care for Ghana football but rather for his own football club.
“Kurt Okraku must step down as GFA president. His responsibility is to provide enough security to prevent any chaos, just like what happened. He could not pick up any signals that there would be a fight between the two football teams, and even the young man who died was on television saying that Nsuatreman supporters were threatening his life,” he explained.
He asserted that Kurt should have anticipated the potential issues surrounding the match between Asante Kotoko and Nsuatreman and taken action to either change the venue or provide adequate security.
He further added that Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare should invite the GFA president if he refuses to resign from his position as president of Ghana Football.
He stated that Kurt has also failed in securing sponsorship for Ghana football; therefore, he should step down.
