The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that it will release all withheld WASSCE results on February 28, 2025.

This decision comes after the council conducted hearings for affected candidates and released results as appropriate.

According to Mr. John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, the council is working diligently to ensure that no candidate is unfairly disadvantaged.

Speaking at press briefing Mr Kapi says the Council has taken severe actions against candidates who engaged in examination malpractices during the 2024 WASSCE.

He emphasized that the council is committed to maintaining the integrity of its examinations.

The council has also expressed concern over the alarming increase in examination malpractices, urging parents, guardians, media, and stakeholders to join forces against this menace.

It’s worth noting that some affected candidates took the issue to court, and the court ruled in their favor, ordering WAEC to release the withheld results.

He however appealed to parents, guardians, and candidates involved to cooperate with the council to expedite the release of outstanding results.

He further revealed that a total of 4108 candidates had their results canceled for bringing foreign materials into the exam hall, while 483 candidates lost their entire results for possessing mobile phones during the exam.

Additionally, WAEC withheld the subject results of 781 candidates and the entire results of 209 candidates due to suspected offenses. Results of candidates from 319 schools were also withheld due to alleged collusion.

WAEC’s procedure for dealing with withheld results involves writing to the affected schools, scrutinizing the scripts, and giving candidates a fair hearing.

Candidates are required to respond to allegations of examination malpractice, and the council will announce a final decision based on the findings.
