Leader of the Union Government, Akwasi Addai Odike, has raised concerns that the multi-party system in the country is destroying Ghana’s democracy.
According to him, the multi-party system should be canceled as it is detrimental to Ghana’s democracy; therefore, the country’s constitution should be amended in order to foster progress.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on March 3, 2025, Odike stated that Ghana’s party system should not emulate the United States of America’s (USA) system of government, which he believes is causing Ghana’s democracy not to progress.
“For me, the multi-party democracy must be cancelled because what Americans are using to develop their country…is the same process that is destroying Ghana’s democracy. We should focus on our culture and our political system in the country,” Odike asserted.
During his submission, he stated that the multi-party system will hinder Ghana’s progress and must be abolished in the country’s political framework. According to him, the West is merely playing with Ghanaians’ minds to exploit the country’s natural resources, specifically gold, however Ghanaians should stop adopting their system of democracy.
Odike added that the multi-party democracy system is also a cause of youth unemployment in the country. He pointed out that this multi-party system is eroding Ghana’s culture, which, in his view, will ultimately destroy the country’s democracy.
