Government Communications Team Member, Kwaku Owusu Banahene, has said that the President John Dramani Mahama, cannot use two months to reset galamsey menace in the country.

During a panel discussion on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on March 19, 2025, Mr. Owusu stated that the immediate past New Patriotic Party (NPP) government used eight years to destroy lands and water bodies in the country, which could not be fixed within the first two months of the New administration

“You’ve [NPP] used eight years to destroy our lands, so someone cannot use two months to fix it. President Mahama said he’ll fix it; allow him to fix it,” he stated.

He claimed, the NPP during its tenure in office used illegal mining activities to destroy lands meant for farming, which has affected Ghana’s cocoa production.

“The NPP spent $10 million on cocoa roads, meanwhile, you’ve used eight years to destroy our water bodies,” Mr. Owusu emphasised.

The communication team member further added that the syndicated loans, which were intended to be partially used for cocoa roads, were cancelled by the NPP government, and later introduced an audit as a result, spent $10 billion on the construction of cocoa roads in the country.

He urged that Ghanaians exercise restraints as the president is dedicated to sanitize the mining sector.
