Lands Ministry, World Bank discusse potential investments for forestry sector

A Team from the World Bank Ghana led by the Country Director, Robert Taliercio O’brien, has called on the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, to discuss potential investments in the forestry sector of the country.

Receiving the four-member team on Monday, March 24, 2025 in Accra, the minister said, the country is ready and willing to continue its partnership with the World Bank to pursue a further investments in the area of forest economy to create jobs especially for the Youth.

He indicated that inspite of devastation caused to some of the country’s the forest reserves by illegal mining, government is ready to partner with World Bank to begin reafforestation to improve the country’s forest estate.

It includes the government flagship Tree For Life initiative, training of the Blue Water Guards, engagement with parliamentarians on restoring degraded lands and protection of the nations forest cover.

Mr. Buah also highlighted Government’s transformative policies and structures to improve the forestry sub- sector.

The World Bank Country Director, Robert Taliercio, on his part pledged the Bank’s commitment to help boost Ghana’s forest economy for sustainable growth.

He said, the bank will also focus on projects which will address agroforestry issues, restore the depleted forest covers of the country and create employment for the teeming youth.

The initiative forms part of Ghana’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to global efforts to combat climate change.
