Two individuals have tragically lost their lives following the collapse of a galamsey pit at Kwabenakrom in the Western North Region.
The victims, identified as Kwadwo, 20 years old, and Akwesman, 25 years old, were reportedly working at the illegal mining site when the pit caved in on them.
According to reports, despite efforts from people at the scene and emergency responders to rescue the victims, both were found dead at the site after their rescue attempts.
The Assemblyman for the Suiano electoral area, Otoo Stephen, confirmed the sad incident to Angel News reporter Kofi Gyabaah.
He indicated that the two victims were local residents, however their families are assisting the police with further investigations.
“The truth of the matter is, yesterday around 4:30, some elders in Kwabenakrom came to me and informed me about the tragic incident that two gentlemen had gone to work in galamsey and this has happened to them.
“I went there with them, and when we arrived, it was true that they were all dead,” he stated.
