We have lost our hiplife genre – Tinny

Must Read

Rapper Nii Addo
Quaynor, popularly known as Tinny, has expressed his concerns about the decline in hiplife in the Ghanaian music scene.

In a phone interview on Angel Drive show, on Tuesday, March 8, 2025, Tinny stated that many artistes and upcoming artistes are hesitant to identify themselves as hiplife musicians despite being influenced by the genre.

“In hiplife, you will not meet any artiste or upcoming artiste and ask them if they do hiplife, and they will say yes, they hear the songs and know it’s hiplife, but can never hear them saying I am a hiplife artiste,” he addressed.

Tinny also questioned the current state of hiplife in the Ghana Music Awards, noting that the genre has been divided into numerous categories.

“The hiplife thing, we have lost it, even in Ghana Music Awards now, how many categories does hiplife have?” he asked.

When asked how he feels about the current state of hiplife and whether he feels disappointed or worked in vain, he then deferred the question to Reggie Rockstone, a fellow rapper and hiplife musician.

“It will be a good question for Reggie Rockstone,” he said.
