The Western Central Regional Police Command has thwarted a robbery attempt near Asankragua, leading to the arrest of two individuals.
The suspects, identified as Mohammed Abdul-Salam (28) and Karim Yakubu (42), were found hiding in a bush along a section of the road.
According to the police, the suspects attempted to flee upon noticing a police patrol team.
This prompted a swift pursuit by the officers, which led to an abandoned mining site where the suspects jumped into a muddy pit in an effort to evade capture.
However, the police officers managed to rescue them from the pit and successfully arrested them.
A search conducted at the time of arrest led to the retrieval of one shotgun, three AAA cartridges, and one keypad mobile phone.
The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
