Tax abolition has no impact on Ghanaians – Kade MP to gov’t

MP for Kade, Alexander Agyare

The Member of Parliament for Kade, Alexander Agyare stated that, the recent abolition of some nuisance taxes by the government has had no effect on the country’s ports.

During a panel discussion with Saddick Adams on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Thursday, April 17, 2025, Mr. Agyare pointed out that the high cost of goods importation has led to economic hardship in the country.

He emphasized that, “If you abolish taxes that do not impact our ports, you have essentially done nothing. You have not addressed the factors that make products and goods expensive in our country.”

Mr. Agyare suggested that to alleviate the financial burden on Ghanaians, the government should consider eliminating port taxes to help reduce the prices of imported items.

He added that, “for peace and comfort to prevail in the country, we need to abolish port taxes so that prices can decrease. That’s how Ghanaians will feel at ease,” he said.

He also highlighted that the recently abolished electronic levy (E-levy) now directly has no affects on individuals sending money.

“If items are expensive in the market, are you not going to buy those expensive items?” he questioned, reiterating that the abolished taxes have not influenced operations at the nation’s ports.
