A New Patriotic Party (NPP) visit to Bantama in Kumasi on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, took a violent turn after a clash among university students led to a stabbing incident during the party’s ongoing “Thank You Tour.”
The event, which was meant to appreciate loyalists and delegates for their support in the 2024 general elections, descended into chaos when students from Unity Hall at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) clashed. The students had been mobilized to welcome Kennedy Agyapong, a key party figure and former flagbearer aspirant.
Eyewitnesses revealed that tensions flared after members of Agyapong’s team allegedly promised each student GHC500. Tempers rose when some students claimed they received less than what was promised.
A verbal disagreement over the uneven cash distribution quickly spiraled into a physical confrontation, during which one student was stabbed. The injured student was immediately rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and is currently receiving treatment.
The assailant reportedly fled the scene following the attack. Police have since launched an investigation and are working to identify and apprehend the suspect.
