Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has formally petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, demanding a full investigation into an alleged police assault on him during the “Save the Judiciary” demonstration at Parliament House.
In the petition dated May 5, 2025, the Minority Leader stated that the unprovoked act of violence by a uniformed police officer occurred at the entrance of Parliament.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin is relying on the leadership of the Ghana Police Service to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has also reviewed several video footages regarding an alleged assault on a police officer by the former during the same demonstration.
Following the review, the Service has written to the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament, requesting the release of Alexander Afenyo-Markin to assist in ongoing investigations into the alleged incident.
The officer involved will also assist with the investigation, the police added.
