The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Oda Constituency in the Eastern Region, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has stated that President John Mahama is beginning to lose his credibility at the presidency due to a series of controversial decisions.
Mr. Acquah said that some of these decisions, including the move to remove the Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, are among the most disturbing.
He alleged that some unidentified individuals are influencing the President to take such actions, and. described the move as a bad development, stating that it tarnishes the President’s credibility as president.
“All those speaking against this removal are not only members of the NPP, but, we have the TUC, GBA, and others. Why are we destroying our democracy that we have beautifully built together?”
“God has gracefully made you [John Mahama] president again, so who are those influencing you with these kinds of decisions to dent your credibility?” he asked soberly.
The Oda MP’s assertion was in connection with the back and forth following the petition filed to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo from office.
Mr. Acquah further warned the President against such a move, adding that he might end up leaving a bad legacy as the sitting president who removed a Chief Justice from office.
“If we want to distance the Supreme Court and make it a non-partisan entity, then that should be the way to go. No matter what has happened in the past, it cannot be compared to this removal of the CJ.”
