The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu Senya West, Eghan Nyamekye Kalala, has urged residents to help combat a potential cholera outbreak by ensuring proper sanitation in the area.

According to the DCE, the District Assembly will implement effective measures to enhance the sanitation system in the district.

However, he emphasised that without a commitment to cleanliness from the community, residents will not enjoy good health.

Speaking to Angel News, Mr. Nyamekye urged residents to cease the indiscriminate dumping of waste materials.

He stated that he aims for his district to become the cleanest in the Central Region during his tenure as DCE.

Mr. Nyamekye assured the community that the Assembly would provide dustbins to discourage littering.

He made this announcement during a clean-up exercise aimed at improving sanitation in Awutu Breku on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

“We’re pleading with the community members to help; at least after eating, don’t just throw the rubbish away, but look for a dumpster and place it inside.

“Let’s all try and do our part to help. As we came, my health director and the MP laid procedures, and this has made things easier for us here.

“We’ll continue to plead with them to do the right thing, and I know there are no toilet facilities here, so we will work towards building more toilets to assist the community. We’ll provide sufficient dustbins, which will also help.

“The job is very hard, but we’re appealing to every individual to do their part. Right now, we’ve amended by-laws that will guide them in making the right choices,” he explained.
