Odike to lead ‘demo’ if President Mahama sacks Sammy Gyamfi

The leader of the Union Government, Akwasi Addae Odike, says he will organise a demonstration against any move by President John Mahama if he sacks the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Samuel Adu Gyamfi.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Monday, May 12, 2025, Mr. Odike stated that Sammy Gyamfi has not committed any crime that would warrant his dismissal from his position.

According to him, President Mahama should not heed the critiques urging his dismissal.

This follows a viral footage in which Mr Gyamfi is seen handing an undisclosed sum of foreign currency, reportedly in US dollars, to Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess turned evangelist.

Mr. Odike noted that the Acting CEO of the Gold Board was the mouthpiece of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during its time in opposition; however, the president must not yield to external pressures when making decisions that could have significant consequences later.

He asserted that Mr Gyamfi is not the only politician to have made such a donation, and Ghanaians should not dictate how he chooses to allocate his money. He emphasised that Mr. Gyamfi has not acted against the state.

“Mr Mahama, if you sack Sammy Gyamfi, I will organise a demonstration against you, and this shows that you’re not committed to your job. Because the procedures you’ve listed for them to follow, Sammy Gyamfi has not crossed the threshold,” Mr Odike warned.

Mr Odike further cautioned the president not to use his code of conduct as a pretext for dismissing his appointees. He argued that Mr. Gyamfi has not breached any codes of conduct within the country.

He stated that President Mahama must remain vigilant in his responsibilities and should avoid being swayed by unfounded claims.

He added that this incident cannot be categorised as corruption; however, he affirmed that those orchestrating such actions could render it corrupt.
