Mahama needs support on plan to relocate administrative capital – Odike

Businessman, Akwasi Addai Odike, has called on Ghanaians to support President John Dramani Mahama in realising his vision to relocate the administrative capital from Accra.

President Mahama, during his ‘Thank You Visit’ of the Greater Accra Region on Friday, May 16, 2025, announced plans to make Dodowa the region’s new administrative capital.

Commenting on the President’s announcement, Odike described the move as spot-on and courageous, adding that the statesman deserves applause for demonstrating strong political will.

According to him, the decision was long overdue due to Accra’s congestion, but successive governments failed to act because of electoral considerations.

“I think the courage the President has shown in taking this step is commendable. He has really done a yeoman’s job with his political will,” he said on the Angel Morning Show, Monday, May 19.

He added, “We all know Accra is choked, but because politicians are concerned about votes, none of them has been bold enough to take such a decisive step, just like Dr. Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah’s decision to move Ghana’s capital from Cape Coast.”

Odike emphasised that relocating the capital would help improve Accra through drainage reconstruction efforts to ease congestion.

He therefore underscored the need to support President Mahama’s plan to ensure its success.

“God bless John Mahama for this, but let us all rally behind him devoid of any political lens.”
