A former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Jaman South, Andrews Bediako, has slammed the John Mahama-administration over the current power crisis in the country.

Contributing to a discussion on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Mr. Bediako accused the government of not focusing much on the energy sector through investments to clearing debts owed by the state, in order to ensure a stable power supply.

According to him, the government is rather prioritising less important things of the people’s need such as sanitary pads and others.

“It is NDC’s priority to buy and share sanitary pads instead of buying oil for the companies who provide us light,” he said

Mr. Bediako further criticised President John Dramani Mahama for failing to address the underlying financial commitment in the energy sector, emphasising that, the current situation is as a result of those unresolved debts.

He also called on the Energy Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, to stop the complaints and blame games which he said “is becoming too much of him”, and rather find solutions to the ‘dumsor’ issue at hand.

“We need solutions, not excuses, the Energy Minister must sit up and stop complaining,” he emphasised.

He further called out some ministerial appointees of the government for their habitual commentaries on social media on less important issues.

Mr. Bediako urged these ministers to concentrate on issues of national interest which they were assigned.
