The Majority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for the Effutu Constituency, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has disclosed that over 20,000 residents have been screened and vaccinated to combat Hepatitis B as he launched the Afenyo-Markin Care Foundation.
This initiative aims to provide financial assistance to individuals living with chronic diseases within the Effutu Constituency. The foundation seeks to cover the costs of care and medication for non-communicable diseases.
During the launch, the former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Effutu Municipal, Alhaji Kassim Zubairu, who represented Alexander Afenyo-Markin, revealed that over GHC 400 million has been spent in the fight against Hepatitis B in the Effutu Constituency.
Mr. Zubairu further stated that over 20,000 people in Effutu have been tested and vaccinated in the battle against Hepatitis B.
“Hon. Afenyo-Markin has spent over GHC 400 million in the fight against Hepatitis B in the Effutu Municipality.
“Through the support of Hon. Afenyo-Markin, over 20,000 people have tested and vaccinated against Hepatitis B in Effutu,” he stated.
In his speech, he emphasised that the Afenyo-Markin Care Foundation aims to support those in need who struggle to pay for their hospital bills.
Furthermore, Effutu Municipal Health Director, Paulette Brown, called on Ghanaians to take Hepatitis B seriously, as it poses a greater danger than many other diseases.
