Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has revealed that 87 projects are underway under the government’s flagship Big Push Infrastructure Programme, describing it as one of the most extensive investments in strategic transport infrastructure in recent years.

He explained that the initiative spans all 16 regions of Ghana, covering trunk roads, bridges, urban roads, and feeder roads designed to improve connectivity, stimulate economic activity, and ease the movement of people and goods across the country.

The disclosure was made during the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament on Thursday, July 23, where Dr. Forson updated lawmakers on the government’s infrastructure agenda and the progress of major road works.

According to him, the Big Push programme is central to the government’s broader plan to fast-track infrastructure growth by prioritising critical transport corridors that connect communities, enhance trade, and drive national development.

“Mr. Speaker, Government’s Big Push Infrastructure Programme is driving the largest coordinated investment in strategic transport infrastructure in recent years, with projects underway in all sixteen regions of the country. Mr. Speaker, work has commenced on 87 projects, comprising 74 trunk roads and bridges, 10 urban roads, and 3 feeder roads.

“Significant progress has been made on key corridors, including the Kasoa-Winneba, Takoradi-Agona Junction, Ofankor-Nsawam, Adentan-Dodowa, Tema-Aflao, Tepa-Goaso, Penyi-Aflao, Wenchi-Sawla, Atimpoku-Ho-Aflao, Tumu-HanLawra, Tumu-Navrongo and Winneba-Cape Coast-Takoradi Roads,” he said.

The programme is part of government’s efforts to close longstanding infrastructure gaps and deliver reliable transport networks that support socio-economic development nationwide.
