The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives’ Association (GRNMA) has directed all of its members to ensure that both Out-Patient Department (OPD) and emergency services are withdrawn simultaneously as part of their ongoing industrial action.
In a communiqué dated June 3, 2025, and signed by GRNMA President Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo and General Secretary Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, the Association expressed deep frustration over the government’s failure to approve and implement their Collective Agreement, which was signed in May 2024.
The leadership condemned what they described as “intimidation, divisive and false narratives” being peddled, urging the Ministry of Health to focus its energy on securing approval from the Ministry of Finance and ensuring immediate implementation.
“All nurses and midwives in Ghana are called upon to remain focused, resolute and unperturbed because the fight we are on is a JUST one,” the statement read. It further noted that collective agreements must be respected and fully implemented before being re-negotiated.
GRNMA also instructed rotation and trainee nurses to fully participate in the outlined industrial actions under the supervision of their seniors, warning of accountability for any mishaps due to non-compliance.
The Association commended members of the media for amplifying their concerns and called on Parliament to act urgently to avoid a complete shutdown of nursing and midwifery services by June 9, 2025. They also extended appreciation to Members of Parliament who have supported their cause.
Reiterating their stance, the leadership urged all members to remain united and vigilant in their pursuit of justice for the delayed implementation of the agreement.
