The Member of Parliament for Kade, Alexander Agyare, has admonished the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to focus on prosecuting top alleged corrupt officials at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), rather than resorting to unnecessary engagements.
He described the recent posture and actions of the OSP as “lamentations and nuisance,” claiming the office is increasingly straying from its core mandate.
Mr. Agyare’s comments follow the OSP’s announcement of a GHC280 million corruption scandal allegedly involving top NPA officials and some Oil Marketing Company (OMC) directors.
Speaking to Saddick Adams on Wednesday’s June 4, 2025, edition of the Angel Morning Show (AMS), the MP accused the OSP of being hypocritical in its approach to fighting corruption.
“If the OSP claims it has discovered GHC280 million at the NPA secretariat, it’s simple, they should use the rightful legal channels to recover all those amounts. That is exactly what Ghanaians are expecting. I will not go on national television to defend anyone accused of wrongdoing, but if someone is found guilty by a competent court, then they are guilty.”
Mr. Agyare further implored the OSP to let actions do the talking for the office.
“I’m urging him to seriously pursue those cases if he claims to have discovered them, because the constant lamentations from his office are becoming excessive. Excuse me to say, the frequent public addresses have become strange to Ghanaians especially because he failed to do the same under the previous NPP government,” says the Kade MP.
The Kade lawmaker added that the actions of the OSP under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration do not surprise him, alleging that the office, led by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, appears to be pleasing their paymasters just to keep their jobs.
