Akufo-Addo left no Common Fund arrears – Kade MP discounts NDC claims

Must Read

Member of Parliament (MP) for Kade Constituency, Alexander Kwadwo Agyare, has asserted that the immediate past New Patriotic Party (NPP) government settled all common fund payments without any arrears.

According to him, the common fund is a responsibility that aligns with any government; however, the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration should not assert that they are the only government fulfilling this obligation in the country.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Mr. Agyare stated that the NPP government, led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, cleared all arrears for 2024, 2023, and 2022.

He challenged the current Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, who claimed that the previous NPP government left outstanding debts.

“The common fund, this is not the first time a government in power is paying. What Mr. Ato came to say is misleading; we have not claimed there are arrears or debts.

“When the NPP came to power, we paid all the arrears for 2024, 2023, and 2022.

“However, your own payments are yet to be made. We are in the sixth month, and how many quarters have you paid? We are almost in the second quarter, and you are only now coming to make payments. What does that signify?

“What this government has done since taking office and their assertion that they have paid the common fund is misleading.

“The funds they are using to pay the common fund are merely the money available, and they have not secured additional resources from anywhere,” he revealed.
