A lifeless body of a man believed to be in his early 30s was retrieved from a drainage that links to the Okrudu River at Kasoa Iron City, in the Awutu Senya East Municipality.

According to reports, the body of the deceased was found in the drainage after the heavy downpour on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

Reports say the deceased drowned at Believers Junction while trying to cross the bridge to the other side but unfortunately slipped and got drowned.

The Assemblyman of Iron City, Kennedy Agyapong, confirmed the incident to the media, saying that the deceased, until his demise, was a worker at a company in Iron City.

He made a passionate appeal to the government to construct a befitting drainage system for the people to enable residents to cross easily without calamity or casualty.

“We are asking government to come to our aids and construct the bridge for us,” he told the media.

Awutu Senya East Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Nyash Nyande, expressed the organization’s deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

He described the development as sad and terrible and indicated that the body has been deposited for autopsy and preservation.

Meanwhile, the MCE for Awutu Senya East, Seth Sabbah Banini, in an interview with the media, warned the public against underestimating flooding during rains.

“Oftentimes, some people take things for granted when it is raining and intend to walk through, especially when using bridges.

“So I would advise that we tread cautiously during floods to avoid unforeseen circumstances. This will be helpful to everyone,” he said.
