Zoomlion Ghana Limited has responded to widespread reportage regarding the expiration of its contract with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), clarifying that the arrangement reached its natural end and was not terminated by the government.

The company emphasized that the specific contract in question, related to the Street Sweeping Programme, was granted a six-month extension after its initial expiration in March 2024 and ultimately ended in September 2024.

In a statement issued on the government’s decision to discontinue the contract, Zoomlion addressed concerns raised following a letter from the Office of the President.

“The contract has therefore reached its natural conclusion and expired. Contrary to claims in some media reports, this expiration does not constitute a termination or cancellation of the agreement by the government, and that is not what the Office of the President stated,” the company noted.

Zoomlion further clarified that no such directive has been issued regarding its other sanitation-related collaborations, which remain unaffected.

“It is important to note that the letter from the Presidency does not indicate a termination of Zoomlion’s other contracts or the broader YEA sanitation module.”

The company also expressed full support for the government’s intention to adopt competitive procurement measures for future sanitation contracts.

In line with ongoing sector reforms, Zoomlion welcomed the government’s efforts to improve the remuneration and welfare of sanitation workers.

Zoomlion aligned itself with the government’s broader development agenda and reiterated its commitment to building a cleaner, greener Ghana.

“We endorse the government’s commitment to reform and innovation within the sanitation sector. We are confident these measures will enhance service delivery, foster greater public trust, and strengthen institutional frameworks.”
