The Ghana Education Service (GES) has extended the school selection deadline for Junior High School (JHS) pupils to June 25, 2025.
This extension, according to the GES allows students to carefully choose their preferred Senior High Schools (SHSs) after government included private SHSs in the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme starting from the 2026/2027 academic year.
“This extension has become necessary due to the inclusion of private Senior High Schools in the selection process, allowing candidates additional time to make well-informed choices,” the statement noted.
In a statement dated Thursday, June 13, GES directed all Regional Directors of Education to ensure the new deadline is communicated to Metro, Municipal, and District Directors, and by extension to all JHS final-year students through their school heads.
GES advises students to seek guidance from teachers and parents to ensure informed decisions, reminding them that guidelines and procedures for selection remain unchanged.
