Government Spokesperson, Kwaku Owusu Banahene, has launched a scathing attack on the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the party of widespread corruption and claiming its leadership lacks the moral standing to return to power in the 2028 elections.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) with host Ohemaa Sakyiwaa on Monday, June 23, 2025, Banahene described the NPP’s handling of public office as financially exploitative.

“The NPP government came to do business and loot the country. The Attorney General has found most of its members with corruption and corruption-related allegations,” he stated

Mr. Banahene, in his remark likened corruption in the opposition party while in government to a sexually transmitted disease, asserting that such misconduct frequently extends to the spouses of implicated individuals.

“Today, corruption has become sexually transmitted in the NPP. In any case, whenever you see an NPP man being found guilty of corruption, it involves him and his wife,” he insinuated.

Mr. Banahene further criticized the NPP’s stated ambition to return to power in 2028, arguing that the party has not shown accountability for its past governance.

“At this juncture, I expected them to apologize to Ghanaians in reflection of what they took the people through for any consideration in 2032 to recapture power,” he said.
