Member of Parliament for Tano South, Charles Asiedu, has bemoaned the spate of corruption and corruption-related cases in the country, lamenting how normalized such practices have become.

Sharing his view on the recent scandal at the Strategic Mobilization Limited Revenue Assurance Contract (SML) that has led to the arrest of some government appointees – both past and current, the MP could not fathom why the predicament keeps escalating.

He further questioned why the widespread misconduct is becoming all too common.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Thursday, June 26, 2025, he stated that the increasing rate of corruption in the country has reach an unprecedented level which calls for alarm and concerns.

“The rate of corruption in Ghana is now beyond measures,” Mr. Asiedu expressed.

He stressed on the scandal as a multitude of pressing issues that has left Ghanaians struggling to keep face and difficult to ponder and reason-on.

“You cannot think about everything regarding the issues at hand to the end,” Mr. Asiedu told the host, Ohemaa Sakyiwaa.

He emphasized and questioned the rationale behind the government’s decision to approve such a contract worth a substantial amount to enhance revenue collection and tax administration.

“I don’t understand why a government will sign a contract of GH¢1.6 billion to mobilize revenue and tax system?’’

He argued on why the contract was switched from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) whiles it was well suited with expertise, existing capabilities, and infrastructure to handle the sector it operates.

“The downstream petroleum sector is managed by the NPA which has all the mechanism towards working, why take it from NPA to SML?” he asked.

Mr. Asiedu, however indicated that, Ghanaians are ready and willing to receiving their funds back from these accused persons who had embezzled it, since, the money went into pockets. “We are expecting to retrieve our money back,” he remarked.
