Mahama orders GoldBod taskforce to use body cameras to enhance transparency

President John Dramani Mahama has declared that every member of the newly established GoldBod Taskforce must wear body cameras while on duty to promote transparency and accountability.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony at the National Security Secretariat on Tuesday, July 8, President Mahama described the initiative as a crucial and decisive measure to combat illegal gold smuggling and corruption within Ghana’s mining industry.

“Every member of the task force will operate under strict oversight. All officers will wear body cameras in every operation they undertake,” he stated.

The GoldBod Taskforce, comprising personnel from National Security, the military, and other key security agencies has undergone extensive training, background checks, polygraph testing, and orientation on the Minerals and Mining Act (Act 1040).

The President noted that the team has also received intensive anti-corruption and team-building training to prepare them for high-risk assignments.

“The inauguration of the GoldBod Taskforce signals our readiness to act decisively,” Mahama emphasized.

He further revealed that no field operation would proceed without a written warrant from the Taskforce’s Chief Executive Officer.
