Force operating at National Security is an illegality – Asiedu Nketiah

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has accused the National Chairman for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia for influencing the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to re-run the Ablekuma North Election.

According to him, Asiedu Nketiah’s  threat of having the EC officials sacked from office played a crucial role in the re-run decision.

Mr. Alexander Akwasi Aquah said this backdrop influenced the EC’s decision to re-run the Parliamentary election in 19 centres instead of just collating the results as the court ordered.

“The NDC Chairman is the reason behind the EC’s decisions, for the past three weeks he has been threatening to have them sacked; if the EC does not come out to explain why there has been a change of mind about the elections, we will act based on what we have seen and heard; the EC’s decision was fueled by the NDC,” he emphasised.

He said this during a panel discussion on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) which was hosted by Saddick Adams on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

Mr. Aquah recalled that the EC was summoned to Parliament by the Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Este Kwami Dafeamekpor to address questions about the Ablekuma North Elections, and Bossman Asare, representing the EC, initially stated that there would be no re-run.

He indicated the commission only seek tighten security to collate the results of just three polling stations as per the court’s directive.

He further criticized the EC for disregarding the court’s directive and instead opting to conduct a rerun in nineteen polling stations.

“An Arm of Government like the Judiciary has ordered you to collate results and you’ve also come to parliament to reiterate so what happened for you to just come out and demand a rerun in about 19 polling stations?

“And even with the 3 polling stations you requested security for from the court to be able to collate, you have taken out some of these polling stations from partaking in the election,” he stated.

He added that the NDCs have always been known for abusing powers when they are in office, forcing citizens and state institutions especially the EC, to do things against their will.
