NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn wins Ablekuma North seat in crucial re-run

Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has emerged victorious in the parliamentary rerun for the Ablekuma North constituency, triumphing over the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a fiercely contested election.

In this historic race, Aubynn garnered 34,090 votes, while her NPP rival, Akua Afriyie, secured 33,881 votes.

This victory marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time in the Fourth Republic that the NDC has claimed this seat, ending decades of political dominance by the NPP.

“A win was expected because we worked so hard,” Ewurabena Aubynn stated to journalists, reflecting on the efforts that led to her success.

The rerun was necessitated by a protracted dispute regarding the initial parliamentary results from December 2024.

Violence at the collation centre had disrupted the counting of results from 19 polling stations, prompting a High Court ruling that ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the process.

However, after months of delays and ongoing security concerns, the Commission ultimately decided to hold a rerun in the affected areas.
