Chief Executive Officer for World Brainest National Abacus Competition, Hilda Karroum, has called on the government to support the introduction of abacus lessons in public schools.

She highlighted the importance of initiating the abacus program in public schools at large, stating that it will enhance children’s mathematical abilities, allowing them to perform calculations with speed and precision.

She said this during the 2025 National Abacus Competition at Achimota PTA Secretariat in Accra on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

Hilda Karroum emphasized that as the future generation, Ghanaian children hold the key to the country’s progress and therefore, developing their reasoning skills is essential.

“In fact, the future of Ghana lies in the hands of the Ghanaian children because they’re the future generation.

“If the government supports us, we will all move forward and together, Ghana will reach where it wants to be,” she stressed.

She reiterated that government’s sponsorship is necessary to ensure that the abacus program is not limited to private schools but also accessible to all public schools across the country.

“Government should sponsor us so that it won’t be in a way such that only private schools will have the privilege to learn this program.

“But all government schools across the country will also get the opportunity to partake in this educational exercise,” she stated.
