Mahama unveils bypass plan to keep heavy trucks out of Kumasi city
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans for a Greater Kumasi Bypass that will redirect heavy trucks away from the city centre, aiming to ease congestion, promote safer travel, and protect Kumasi’s urban environment.

According to him plans to construct the Greater Kumasi Bypass as part of his government’s infrastructure drive under the Big Push agenda, aimed at decongesting the city and improving transportation in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking during his Thank You Tour in Kumasi, President Mahama explained how the project will divert heavy vehicular traffic away from the city centre.

“Under the Big Push, we are going to commence the construction of what we call the Greater Kumasi Bypass. The first quadrant of this bypass will go through Ejisu and link the Mampong-Techiman road.

It means that all the big articulated trucks that are heading to Burkina Faso and Mali will no longer come through Kumasi city. They will turn right at Ejisu and appear on the Techiman road.

This will help decongest the city, it will promote safer travel and restore Kumasi’s urban integrity.”

The President emphasised that the bypass will not only ease traffic in Kumasi but also enhance regional trade routes and improve road safety for commuters and businesses.
