The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has advised Ghanaian migrants and students to register with their embassy upon entering a country in order for them to gain protection and assistance when the need arises.
During a Parliamentary proceeding on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, he mentioned that the Ministry keeps record of students, particularly those on Government scholarships and those studying French in Togo’s capital city, Lome, through the year abroad programme.
“Our missions continue to encourage Ghanaians who enter other jurisdictions to make themselves known, have your details taken so that we can always be in the look out, seek your welfare, extend consular assistance to you when you need them.
“We know the students, particularly those on Government scholarships, we have the year abroad programme for students who study French and so we have a data programme for those who are in Lome and studying French,” Mr. Okudzeto noted.
He reiterated the importance of migrants registering their presence in a foreign country, as failure to do so may hinder their ability to receive help when needed.
