The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a firm rebuttal to viral claims suggesting that Ghanaian passports are being issued to non-nationals.
In a press release dated Thursday, July 24, 2025, the Ministry described the allegations as “false and baseless,” and emphasized the integrity of its passport issuance procedures.
According to the statement, all passport applications undergo rigorous scrutiny, including verification of submitted documents and in-person vetting interviews.
The Ministry made clear that the presentation of required documents alone does not guarantee issuance, and that only individuals who meet strict nationality criteria are approved.
“The Ministry will not under any circumstance avail such a security document of the state to non-nationals,” the release stated.
Parts of the statement added that its systems are continually reinforced through modern technology and staff training.
The public was also reminded that submitting forged or fraudulent documents for services rendered by the Ministry is a criminal offense under Sections 158, 159, 166, and 169 of Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The Ministry urged media to exercise caution and accuracy in their reporting, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of national identification systems.
