The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Parliamentary Caucus has expressed profound alarm at the recent surge in violent crimes across the region.

In a statement released on Saturday, July 26, 2025, they highlighted a series of tragic incidents, including the brutal murder of the Kusasi Chief of Asawase in his home, followed closely by the killing of his brother.

These heinous acts are not isolated; they represent a perilous trend that threatens the safety and peace of law-abiding citizens.

“We are not making demands for special treatment. We are demanding what every Ghanaian deserves: protection, swift justice, and a state that responds when lives are at risk.

The rising fear and growing sense of insecurity must be addressed without delay.”

The caucus called upon the Ashanti Regional Security Council, under the leadership of the Regional Minister, to enhance its response and ensure that robust and proactive measures are implemented immediately.

They also urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to treat these killings with the urgency they warrant. It was emphasised that Ghanaians across the nation deserve to feel safe, and Ashanti is no exception.

Furthermore, they appealed to the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed, whose own constituency is directly affected by these violent occurrences.

They asserted that this is a critical time for the Minister to lead with presence and decisive action, stating, “Moments like this define leadership; however, silence is not an option.”

In light of the escalating violence, the caucus called for three immediate actions:

“A full criminal investigation into the recent murders, with timely and transparent updates to the public.

“Deployment of adequate police personnel and intelligence resources to safeguard vulnerable communities.

“A clear and public commitment from the Ministry of the Interior and the Police Service on measures being taken to prevent further violence.”

“This is a moment that calls for national responsibility, not partisan reaction. The safety of our people is a fundamental duty of the state.

“The NPP Ashanti Parliamentary Caucus will continue to raise its voice, not for political gain, but because the people of Ashanti deserve to live without fear.”

The statement was signed by Vincent Ekow Assafuah Esq., Secretary of the NPP Ashanti Parliamentary Caucus.
