President John Dramani Mahama has praised the exemplary leadership of Yagbonwura Bii‑Kunuto Jewu Soaale I, commending his commitment to peace, unity, and regional development in Northern Ghana.

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep admiration for the leadership of Yagbonwura Bii‑Kunuto Jewu Soaale I , the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, during an official visit to the Jubilee House in Accra on Wednesday, July 29, 2025.

Welcoming the Yagbonwura and his delegation, President Mahama said the visit was not only a mark of traditional respect but also a reaffirmation of the enduring partnership between Ghana’s chieftaincy institutions and the democratic state.

“It is with profound honor and heartfelt appreciation that I welcome Your Royal Majesty the Yagbonwura Bii‑Kunuto Jewu Soaale I, together with your distinguished entourage, to the Jubilee House, Ghana’s seat of government, on this significant official visit,” he stated.

He acknowledged the strong historical and cultural foundations of the Gonja Kingdom, describing it as one of Ghana’s most respected traditional authorities, and praised the Yagbonwura’s reign for its humility, cultural stewardship, and dedication to peace and progress.

President Mahama singled out the Yagbonwura’s outreach to fellow traditional leaders, especially his visit to the King of Dagbon and the reciprocal visit as a powerful symbol of unity that should inspire the people of Northern Ghana.

“Your Majesty’s outreach to other traditional rulers, your active involvement in regional development matters, and your calm yet firm advocacy for national unity have not gone unnoticed,” he said.

As a native of Gonjaland, President Mahama noted a personal connection to the visit and the values that have shaped his life and leadership.

“I stand here today not merely as President of the Republic, but also a committed son of Gonjaland, aware of our challenges, proud of our achievements, and fully invested in our collective progress.”

He also emphasized his government’s commitment to inclusive, regionally balanced, and community-led development, adding that the Savannah Region, with its rich history and natural resources, holds a strategic place in Ghana’s transformation agenda.

The visit by the Yagbonwura to the seat of government highlights the deepening relationship between traditional leadership and the state, and reinforces efforts toward national unity, peace, and development.
