The 5,000 scholarship awards, he noted, will be distributed in two categories: 2,000 for brilliant but needy students and 3,000 for other qualified applicants who meet the competitive criteria.

He made this statement on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the press launch of the 2025 local scholarship programme.

He mentioned that in pursuit of fairness and nation-building, the scholarship application process has been revamped to be efficient, inclusive, and entirely digital.

“As part of our continuous effort to promote transparency, equity, and national development through education, this year’s application process has been designed to be efficient, inclusive, and entirely digital; this year’s scholarship will be awarded to 5,000 qualified applicants.

“2,000 will be awarded to brilliant but needy students across the various tertiary institutions, which would be administered by the various facilities, departments, and units in various tertiary institutions, with a technical committee from SCHOLSEC to play an oversight role,” he added.
