President John Dramani Mahama has called on the international community to remain steadfast in efforts to bring lasting peace to the Middle East through a negotiated two-state solution that respects the rights of both Palestinians and Israelis.

Speaking during a presentation of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people through their ambassador at the Presidency on Friday, August 1, 2025, President Mahama said Ghana’s support for peace is deeply rooted in principles of international justice and human dignity.

“We remain firm in our support for a negotiated two-state solution to the Palestinian question. This is in with international law and relevant United Nations resolution, one that guarantees the unalienable rights of both Palestinians and Israelis to coexist peacefully side by side with secure and recognized borders.”

The President urged all parties involved in the conflict to embrace diplomacy and commit to dialogue as the only sustainable path to ending the cycle of violence.

“We continue to call on parties to the conflicts to embrace diplomacy, commit to dialogue and end the cycle of violence. We can achieve lasting peace in the region through sincere engagement and goodwill.”

Drawing on Ghana’s own experience, President Mahama emphasized the value of negotiation and reconciliation in building stable societies.

“As a country that has walked the difficult path of nation-building, reconciliation and democratic progress, Ghana believes deeply in the power of negotiation, the strength of peaceful resolution and the possibility of renewal after pain.”

He further urged the global community not to relent in its support for all efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region, especially through humanitarian assistance to affected populations.

“We therefore urge the international community not to relent in its support for all efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region and provide critical humanitarian assistance to those affected. It is in our collective interest as a global community to preserve life, to protect dignity and uphold the tenets of justice and peace.”

President Mahama concluded by calling on the authorities in control of Gaza’s borders to allow humanitarian aid to reach civilians caught in the ongoing crisis.

“We also call on the Zionist authorities to open the borders so that humanitarian aid can flow into Gaza.”

The humanitarian gesture, which included 40 metric tonnes of Golden Tree-branded chocolate and other Ghanaian cocoa products, was presented to the Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Abdalfatah Alsatarri, as a show of solidarity with the people of Palestine.
