The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has called on the media and content creators to exercise caution in their coverage of the recent Air Force Z-9 Helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region, which claimed eight lives.

GAF’s caution stemmed from what it described as the widespread speculative and unsubstantiated commentaries regarding the incident.

In a statement issued by Captain VA Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the Army noted that such practices not only risk misleading the public but also exacerbate the pain of bereaved families.

“For the sake of the bereaved families and loved ones, the Armed Forces urges media practitioners, panelists, social commentators, bloggers, and content creators to be circumspect in their reportage as a way of according respect to the memories of the fallen heroes and to mitigate the sorrows of the bereaved families,” it stated.

The GAF acknowledged the public’s interest in the matter, assuring that “painstaking investigations have begun to unravel the cause of the crash” and that it would “do everything possible, including collaborating with international agencies to bring closure to the incident.”

It stressed that at this stage, “any purported conclusions based on opinions, perceptions and conjectures will be premature and misleading,” advising the public to be wary of such reportage.

The statement, dated August 12, 2025, further expressed gratitude to the government, institutions, and individuals for their support during the period.
