The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commenced an investigation into a case of unlawful possession of arms and ammunition after the Kuntase District Patrol Team confiscated a vehicle loaded with firearms on August 17, 2025.

In a press release signed by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Godwin Ahianyo, on Monday, August 18, 2025, the police reported that while on patrol on the Aputuogya-Bekwai road, they noticed a white Toyota Sienta with registration number NR 289-24, parked suspiciously near a bushy area along the road.

According to the police, two male adults were observed standing beside the vehicle, allegedly smoking a substance suspected to be a narcotic drug.

The men, upon noticing the approaching police team, fled into a nearby bush and escaped despite pursuit by the officers.

A search on the abandoned car revealed a stash of weapons and other items suspected of being linked to potential criminal operations.

The retrieved items included AK-47 assault rifle with serial number 29546, one locally manufactured firearm, two AK-47 magazines with each loaded with 30 rounds, four packets of AK-47 ammunition with each also containing 25 rounds, seven loose rounds of ammunition, one pair of wellington boots, one Huawei smartphone, cowrie shells, one pair of sandals, Ghana card and a temporary driver’s license.

The police further urged the public with any information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects to report to the nearest police station, or contacting the police emergency numbers: 191, 18555 or 112.
