Government Spokesperson, Godwin Ayaba, has called for the intervention of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over utterances by some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the upcoming Akwatia by-election.

According to the NDC communicator, such comments have the potential to incite violence and undermine the peace of the electoral process.

Speaking to Ohemaa Sakyiwaa on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Thursday, August 22, 2025, Mr. Ayaba cautioned against the recurrence of threats similar to those that characterized the Ablekuma North by-election.

“Prior to the Ablekuma North by-election, every NPP member who granted an interview was beating war drums with threats of retaliation. NPP has started repeating the same thing going into Akwatia by-election,” he stated.

He added, “They [NPP] should stop the war drums they have started beating.”

Throwing out a challenge, Mr. Ayaba urged anyone with knowledge of an NDC member instigating violence in Akwatia to make such information public.

“Point to me any NDC executive who is threatening that they will beat or march the NPP boot for boot, none has occurred. We are concentrating on strategies to win for Akwatia residents,” he stressed on Angel TV.

He further appealed to the IGP to closely monitor individuals making inciteful statements regardless of political affiliation.

“I pledge on the IGP to take footage of all war drums of anybody regardless of party colour, even if it’s an NDC member, and take notice of those people and monitor them during the election, because we cannot allow them to be beating war drums prior to events,” he said.
