There is a heavy security presence in Akwatia in the Eastern Region ahead of the by-election scheduled for September 2, 2025.

As both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) enter the final week of their campaigns, party stalwarts have intensified their activities across the constituency.

To maintain order, the Ghana Police Service has deployed 600 personnel to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process, despite no reports of violence so far.

Van Brown of Angel News desk reported that the deployment aims to tighten security across every part of the constituency before and during the election.

He noted that police have mounted checkpoints along routes to Akwatia township and other key locations to prevent weapons and items that could disrupt election peace.

This deployment follows arrangements made by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Police Management Board to provide stringent security for the much-anticipated election.

In a statement, the Ghana Police Service said that police intelligence had made significant progress in addressing potential threats, resulting in the arrest of ten suspects and the recovery of nine firearms.
