The Deputy Director for the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), Zakaria Abdul Rahman, has asserted that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) should not be viewed merely as an alternative pathway to success through education.

He indicated that instead, it should be seen as the primary choice for Ghanaians seeking quality education and sustainable employment.

He highlighted the critical role of TVET in addressing the skills gap in Ghana’s workforce, with the country facing increasing unemployment rates among the youth.

Speaking at the fifth graduation ceremony of HS College, hosted at the GNAT Hall in Accra on Saturday, August 30, 2025, Mr. Abdul-Rahman said that under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), CTVET is mandated to regulate, promote, and administer all aspects of Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Ghana.

“Our mission is clear to ensure that TVET is not an alternative pathway but a first choice pathway for Ghanaian youth,” he said.

He further noted that at CTVET, their dedication lies in developing a 21st-century Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system that equips Ghanaian youth with the skills necessary for self-employment, digital innovation, and industrial advancement.

“You are entering the world of work at a time when Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is being recognized globally as a key driver of economic transformation. Let your talent speak, but let your values shine even brighter.

“Embrace lifelong learning, adapt to change, collaborate and above all, be ambassadors of quality and excellence where you go,” he urged.

According to him, the government has established a comprehensive framework aimed at making education accessible to everyone through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs.

“This initiative is designed to equip individuals with practical skills and knowledge necessary for various trades, thereby enhancing employability and addressing workforce demands.”
